Getting started

Open the hub address you were given (typically a sunet.se subdomain or your institution's own domain) in a web browser and sign in. Hubs are usually configured to authenticate with your institutional account through eduGAIN, or with an eduID account, the same way other Sunet services do. Your administrator will confirm the exact sign-in method for your hub.

Launch your notebook server

After signing in, JupyterHub starts a personal notebook server for you. If your hub offers more than one server profile, you'll be asked to pick one first. Starting a server can take a short while the first time, as the platform pulls the image and schedules the container.

When it is ready you land in JupyterLab, where you can:

  • Create and run notebooks.
  • Open a terminal.
  • Browse and upload files in your workspace.

Save your work

Files in your workspace home directory persist between sessions. Anything written outside your home directory (for example into the system directories of the container) is lost when the server stops or restarts. See Server profiles and resources for what persists and when servers shut down, and Sunet Drive integration for keeping data in Drive.

Stop your server

You can stop your server from the File → Hub Control Panel menu when you're done. Idle servers are usually shut down automatically to free resources; your work in the home directory is kept.
